I’ve always been loud and could carry a tune. Louder than most people when they open their mouths.  And I’ve always been fairly articulate with pronunciation. Who knew that it would be a great combination for singing – loud, articulate singing that could reach the back of the hall. Throw in a 200 year-old musical score with words in a European language and we’ve got Terry doing opera.

One mid-afternoon in my third week of offshore life aboard the ship, the deck and air was at its tropical hottest and I was ready to take a dip into the clear, warm waters of the Philippine Sea.  But instead of just swimming along the surface, I decided to strap on a SCUBA tank and go a little deeper. I decided, in fact, to go all the way down to the bottom.

I was half way through my 10 year commercial diving career when I got a call to do some deep construction and maintenance work in offshore Malaysia on some oil platforms.  The job was to install pipeline connections to the platform and also cut off some steel vertical pipe that was 48 inches in diameter and had a wall thickness of 2 inches.
